Weary travelers
We are all a bit shaky on the details from chicago to Miami, but somehow we woke up in the middle of the night and several hours later had breakfast at a Cuban place in the Miami airport. I suppose we made it through security ok, but don't really remember. Arrived in Guatemala City on schedule, but we were a little surprised that they expected all 14 of us, and or luggage to fit. The luggage went on top, mostly covered with a tarp, and we crammed in. I began pushing the Dramamine...most accepted. We made it to eagles nest, none sick, through the twisting mountain roads of a third world country. The most amazing thing to me was our stop at Burger King. With no one in our group speaking Spanish, we all tried our best to order in the local toungue. Here is the amazing part; not a single order got screwed up. That has NEVER happened to me in LeRoy, where they always wanna put flavoring in my latte, or omit bacon from a bacon cheeseburger. God must be with us! We where welcomed warmly at eagles nest, where given our hometown connection with the Blocks and Blands, it is by far the closest thing any of us will get to a welcome home feeling when traveling to a third world country for the first time. Would like to upload pictures, but can't figure out how...and now that we are here in Guatemala, all the instructions are in Spanish. It's almost 9 here and well past dark...feels more like midnight. Oh, and when we got here, todd mentioned that he was surprised the driver used the smaller van to get us. Says that for groups of 10, or more, he usually takes the bus. Makes for a great memory! Thanks for your continued prayers!!! Bob
